About Henna
Henna is a plant indigenous to the tropical savannahs of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, and has for centuries been used to adorn the body. The art of henna is found in many cultures across the regions in which the plant grows. In the East, henna has long been used in weddings and rites of passage. As henna has gained popularity in the West, it is a popular temporary body art for those who are not interested in or afraid of permanent tattooing. Henna is applied painlessly to the skin as a paste, and once removed (after several hours of drying) it will leave a light orange stain on the skin. Henna stains will darken slowly over the course of the first 24-48 hours reaching a deep red to dark brown color, and can last up to 4 weeks with proper care. Henna stains vary in color based on body chemistry, location on the body, and time. For more information on the chemistry behind henna stains, click here.
