PyrePyre’s Artist Statement

I have always been a doodler and my notebooks and journals are filled with swirls and squiggles, loops and dashes, and the general meandering of an idle mind. For me henna started as an outgrowth of my habit of writing on my feet; leaving little poems or symbols that were meant to help me manifest the archetypes my higher-self was reaching toward. From these simple spells for self improvement I began to experiment and eventually fall in love with the rich traditional art of henna. I now have nearly a decade of experience working with henna and I continue to evolve my craft. As an artist I seek to both adorn and honor the human form; creating henna designs that can be inspiring on an aesthetic and spiritual level.
